Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design This one-week non-residential program is designed to allow students the opportunity to explore the intersections of technique and choreographic process. Each day will consist of two technique classes, a seminar on careers in dance, choreographic process and choreographic work time. The week will end with a culminating performance Students enrolled in the Drexel University Summer Dance Intensive will have the opportunity to investigate dance as a college student, while enjoying the benefits of being in Philadelphia. The days will consist of technique classes, seminars and choreographic explorations led by Drexel dance faculty with special choreographic mentorship by Drexel dance students. This one-week intensive will allow the workshop participant to understand the intersections of technique, creative process and career opportunities. The Dance major combines rigorous academic coursework with extensive stage and studio dance experiences. We feature an outstanding faculty of noted dancers and choreographers, and the Drexel Dance program is quite different from others in our emphasis on preparing our graduates for a variety of careers in dance and related subjects. We achieve this through Drexel_Сйs outstanding co-op program, which has all students working for six months in a job related to dance. Our program uniquely offers the option of three distinct tracks to career paths that combine an active engagement with dance with real world occupations that go beyond performance. Those are: dance/movement therapy, dance in education, and physical therapy.л_ Classes will run Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:30am and 4:30pm. The day will include morning technique classes in modern, ballet, jazz and/or improvisation, lunch with dance majors, seminars on careers in dance and choreographic process. The final day of the workshop will feature a performance with the workshop participants. The class schedule is as follows: You will have an orientation on Sunday, July 19th from 2:00-4:00pm for both you and your parents to get familiarized with where classes will be held on campus during the week. Students will be expected to report directly to their first class on Monday morning. The program is capped by a performance and reception the evening of the last day of the program. Drexel_Сйs dance facilities include 2 dance studios, theater and a fully equipped Pilates studio alongside additional studios in the state of the art athletic center. Meal Plan: Drexel will provide you with lunch every day during your one-week program. Health Services: You are required to submit proof of health insurance prior to the start of the program. Housing: This summer program is designed as a commuter program therefore supervised residential housing is not offered. We can make recommendations for accommodations on or near Drexel's campus. Both options require a parent to stay overnight with the student if they are under the age of 18.
