University of New England in Maine, Tangier and Online Earn 3 college credits Open to high school students entering their junior or senior year in Fall 2016 This course will enable students to: Early College Creative Writing (Poetry)л_offers an immersion in the art of poetry writing.л_Working within a supportive community of fellow writers, you will complete exercises designed to explore and foster aspects of craft, study a range of contemporary and historical poetic models and develop a significant portfolio of original writing. Youл_will explore and experiment with a range of poetic styles, from traditional and exotic forms (such as the sonnet, ghazal and the pantoum) to contemporary free verse.л_The course will deal with all aspects of creative writing in poetry, from generating ideas and harnessing inspiration through the equally creative process of revision.л_There will be special appearances by accomplished Maine authors, as well as literary field trips as time and interest allows. л_ The dorms are close to your classes and to the dining hall.л_Your twoл_weeksл_onл_campusл_will be a good opportunity for you to experience dormл_life and living with a roommate.л_Rooms include two desks and two beds with linens. A dorm counselor/teaching assistant will be in residence with you. Much of your weekday evenings will be spent with homework and on projects, but there will be plenty of opportunities to socialize and explore the area.л_You will have access to UNE's sports and recreational facilities, including our six-lane pool, weight room, basketball and volleyball courts, and sandy beach!л_Other leisure activities include movies, campfires and cookouts. Aл_limited number of highly competitive merit scholarships are available for qualifying students. Youл_should note on your application that you wish to be considered for a partial merit scholarship, and you may add a short statement explaining your need for support, but awards will be made on the basis of academic merit and achievement. Notifications will be made by May 6, 2016.
