University of New England in Maine, Tangier and Online Earn 3 college credits Open to high school students entering their junior or senior year in Fall 2016 Experience college life on the Maine coast this summer in UNE's new Early College Pre-Law Program. If you answered "Yes" to any of the above questions, UNE Early College is the program for you. You will be introduced to the American legal system and study various legal subjects, such as Contract Law, Tort Law, Constitutional Law and Criminal Law while gaining an understanding of how the court system operates. You will also take trips to the Biddeford District or Alfred Superior court to watch a trialл_(trial schedules permitting). After studying the American legal system and case law for background, you will be placed on a mock trial team where you and your teammates will take on the roles of attorneys and witnesses. During the course, teams will learn the basics regarding the rules of evidence, when objections are appropriate, how to direct and cross-examine a witness, and how to prepare opening and closing statements. The course will conclude with each team presenting itsл_case in front of real attorneys. You will live in a dorm, enjoy UNE_Сйs many recreational facilities, and explore the scenic coast of Maine.л_Through the program, you have the opportunity to take exciting trips, meet new people and make lasting friendships. You emerge ready to begin your college career.л_ Our dorms are close to classes and to the dining hall.л_Your twoл_weeksл_onл_campusл_will be a good opportunity for you to experienceл_dormл_life and living with a roommate. Rooms include two desks and two beds. A dorm counselor/teaching assistant will be in residence with you.л_Much of your weekday evenings will be spent with homeworkл_and working on projects, but there will be plenty of opportunities to socializeл_and explore the area.л_You will have access to UNE's sports and recreational facilities, including our six-lane pool, basketballл_and volleyball courts, and sandy beach!л_Other leisureл_activities include movies, campfires and cookouts. Aл_limited number of highly competitive merit scholarships are available for qualifying students. You should note on your application that you wish to be considered for a partial merit scholarship, and may add a short statement explaining your need for support, but awards will be made on the basis of academic merit and achievement. Notifications will be made by May 6, 2016.
